Fo Guang Shan Institute of Humanistic Buddhism (FGSIHB) has released Stories of the Buddha: Volume 1. Stories in this collection were originally published in Chinese as Fojiao congshu—Fotuo (佛教叢書6.佛陀) and Xingyun shuoyu (星雲說喻), authored by Venerable Master Hsing Yun. This volume brings together thirty-six stories from the life of the Buddha and his disciples, translated into English while preserving their spiritual essence and transformative power.

The narratives recount how the Buddha compassionately guided others through everyday struggles toward realization. The collection highlights key teachings such as kindness, right speech, right action, and mindful living.

A distinctive feature of this edition is the inclusion of a QR code for each story. Readers may scan the code to listen to an English narration recorded by Venerable Miao Guang, the Deputy Chancellor of FGSIHB and the personal English interpreter of Venerable Master Hsing Yun. The audio narration offers a meditative complement to the text—especially valuable for younger readers and those engaging the Dharma through English.

The conclusion of each narration offers a summary of its moral and Dharma Words from Venerable Master Hsing Yun, offering readers a clear insight into the teachings. The Dharma Words, drawn from the Venerable Master’s life experiences and selected for their relevance, provide wisdom and guidance in times of uncertainty.

Every story is further enhanced with vivid color illustrations that convey the dignity and compassion of the Buddha. Together, the stories, audio narration, Dharma words, and artwork offer a layered, immersive experience of the Dharma.

Stories of the Buddha: Volume 1 is a multi-dimensional resource that integrates storytelling, visual learning, spiritual insight, and language development. It conveys the timeless wisdom of the Buddha, honors Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s vision of global Dharma propagation, and provides readers with a meaningful bridge to engage the Dharma while strengthening their English and deepening their understanding of life.
