Cloud-Based Co-learning of The Great Treatise on the Perfection of Wisdom — Practicing Listening, Reflection, and Cultivation in Modern Life

By Xiuxiu

Amid the busyness of modern life, eleven learners have made good use of technology. Since mid-2023, they have met regularly every Thursday evening via Zoom for online co-learning, studying the Buddhist classic The Great Treatise on the Perfection of Wisdom (Mahāprajñāpāramitā-śāstra). On December 18, the participants followed the learning spirit of “listening, reflection, and cultivation,” progressively deepening their understanding of Buddhist teachings and applying the wisdom of the text to everyday life.

Special thanks are extended to the International Translation Center for publishing the bilingual Chinese-English edition of The Great Treatise on the Perfection of Wisdom. The clear and fluent English translation has helped learners overcome reading barriers and better grasp the profound Dharma meanings. The study group adopts an interactive format in which participants take turns leading the reading, complemented by Venerable Jueji’s compassionate explanations, transforming this challenging treatise into a well-structured and accessible learning journey.

Through in-depth study, participants have come to a renewed understanding of the true meaning of “merit”—not merely the accumulation of blessings, but the nourishment for life transformation and the practice of the bodhisattva path. The study group also resonates with Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s spirit of Humanistic Buddhism, practicing the principles of “Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings.” Through shared learning and cultivation, members support one another, build firm confidence, and allow the light of wisdom to continue to grow.
