On December 25, Austin Xiang Yun Temple held a Thanksgiving luncheon in a Buddhist manner, inviting more than 30 local and international community members to gather together. Everyone spent the holiday in an atmosphere filled with friendship, festive joy, and compassion.
This luncheon was carefully prepared by the Indian American Tyagi family to express their gratitude to the temple’s monastics and the community for their care and guidance over the past year. The family recalled the sense of acceptance and warmth they felt on their first visit to the temple, which became the motivation to give back today, echoing Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s teaching: “When receiving a drop of kindness, one should repay it with a spring.”
The venue was warmly decorated, and laughter and blessings flowed without end. Both new and old friends alike felt unity and belonging. The luncheon not only offered a wonderful meal to share, but also embodied Fo Guang Shan’s core values of compassion, respect, and loving-kindness. It showcased the beauty of cross-cultural exchange and allowed everyone to experience that the true spirit of the holidays arises from sharing and caring.
