From July 21 to 22, the Department of Education (DepEd) Region I and the Vigan City Schools Division Office held a two-day Staff Well-Being and Organizational Effectiveness Forum at Fo Guang Shan's Guang Ming Meditation Center in Cavite. Around 50 education officials and school leaders participated in the program, led by Dr. Vilma Eda, to strengthen resilience, ethical leadership, and organizational effectiveness through values-based learning.
The training featured a team of Fo Guang Shan speakers, including Dr. Cecilia B. Manikan, Dr. Maria Majorie Purino, Venerable Jue Qian, Venerable Zhi Yi, and Ms. Lee Sze Wah. They delivered sessions on the BANI world, the Three Dharma Seals, the Threefold Training, mindfulness, neuroscience and Humanistic Buddhism, the Three Acts of Goodness and Four Givings, and practical applications of mindfulness in the workplace. Participants also experienced walking meditation, mindful eating, nature walks, and reflective journaling.
Through lectures and hands-on activities, participants explored how mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and values-based leadership can enhance personal well-being, teamwork, and organizational performance. The forum emphasized that caring for educators' well-being is essential to providing quality, inclusive, and learner-centered education.
The program further strengthened the partnership between the Philippine Department of Education and the Fo Guang Shan Foundation. Participants returned to their schools with renewed purpose, practical wellness strategies, and a deeper commitment to compassionate leadership and educational excellence.
