Fo Guang Shan Chu Un Temple in Cebu
On the evening of December 9, a major fire broke out in Sitio All Season 3, Barangay Cogon Pardo, Cebu City. Although no casualties were reported, more than 70 houses were damaged or destroyed, affecting over 300 residents. On December 20, Fo Guang Shan Chu Un Temple in Cebu, together with BLIA Cebu chapters, distributed relief supplies to affected families and offered prayers for firefighters.
According to the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Cebu City Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the fire affected 87 families and 74 houses, with an estimated loss of PHP 3.75 million. About 74 students lost their school bags and supplies, creating urgent educational needs.
Displaced residents are currently staying at the Cogon Gym evacuation center, where many families continue to live in temporary shelters. Chu Un Temple and BLIA members visited the site to offer care, relief goods, and encouragement, supporting families as they face post-disaster challenges.
Venerable Zhi Rong led prayers for frontline firefighters, expressing gratitude for their courage and dedication in protecting lives and property. The temple also noted that some families rely on candlelight due to high electricity costs, increasing fire risks. In addition to ongoing relief efforts, Chu Un Temple plans to promote home safety awareness and continue supporting recovery efforts.
